All About Our Community Radio Station - Tamar FM 95.3 Inc.

The crucial ethos for the existence of Tamar FM is to serve the community as a voice that ensures information is heard by as many listeners as possible within our community and the northern region of Tasmania. Apart from the live and volunteer pre-recorded broadcasts heard each day, the volunteer team at Tamar FM assist the community at local events with live broadcasting, provide work placements for students, and importantly work with all levels of the community to promote our region and tourism.

Our Goals

Our goal is to entertain, inform and support the community by fostering co-operation and interaction through the medium of a community radio station. We aim to serve the George Town and West Tamar council areas and beyond by bringing together a diverse range of groups, individuals and interests.

Our Organisation

TamarFM Inc is a not-for-profit incorporated association which holds a license from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) for operating a community radio station. The name of the station is also TamarFM.

Both the association and the radio station are operated entirely by volunteers who provide their services free of charge. The volunteers are responsible for all the programs that go to air (there are no purchased programs). The programs may have a live announcer or be pre-recorded by our volunteers. Volunteers also usually create the ads for our sponsors and for much of the maintenance of the station equipment.

Tamar FM is managed by a Board that is elected each year at the Annual General Meeting. Day to day management is handled by the Station Manager.

Tamar FM welcomes members of the community who wish to become members of the association. There are many ways for members to become involved with Tamar FM. A qualified member may nominate to become a member of the Board or help in fund raising activities such as the monthly Tamar FM BBQ and market held in George Town. The member can also apply to the Station Manager to become a volunteer at the Station. Volunteering at the station offers a range of interesting activities including on-air announcer, producing recorded shows, using broadcasting software, administration and general station upkeep.
